Never underestimate the power that we women have” (Emmeline Pankhurst)

One day an army of grey-haired women may quietly take over the earth!” (Gloria Steinem)

From the fight for women’s suffrage to “me too,” there have been many women-led protest movements that have had an impact on social and economic life.  Focusing mostly on Britain and the US, this course will examine some theories and disputes about a “woman’s place” and gender inequality, and will consider the lives and influence of some of the most prominent feminists and activists – and the protests they inspired.  Plenty of discussion, as well as YouTube encounters with some contemporary feminists.
