Lives of Norfolk Women from the Tudors to the Victorians
Experienced local historian Stephen Poulter uses original manuscripts from the Norfolk County Archives plus online resources to reveal the stories of women who lived in this historic County between 1500 and 1900. The subjects investigated include a Lady of the Manor, a prosperous female innkeeper, a Georgian Gentlewoman and a twice-widowed 19th century farmer. You will discover how to research, read and interpret historic documentation such as Wills, Inventories and Property Deeds to piece together biographies of a section of rural society which has, until recently, been largely ignored and marginalised.
The course is aimed at anyone with a general interest in local and social history, and will be of particular relevance to those who have researched the genealogy of their own family. As a result of attending the course you will be able to:
