Whereas Puccini, later, focussed mainly on the heroines of his operas,  Wagner’s focus is firmly on his male heroes.  This half day will concentrate first on the heroes of Wagner’s early work – Rienzi, Tannhauser, Lohengrin – then on Siegmund and Siegfried from the Ring Cycle – before moving on to the heroes of his final works – Tristan, Walther (from Die Meistersinger von Nurnburg) and finally Parsifal.  The session will be amply illustrated by clips from the various works and will provide exciting insights into the various modes of heroism which interested Wagner.
